Cloud dotted sky
hawk circling high
river flowing slow as time.
Splashing through waves on a stone covered beach
the wind and water in rhyme.
Jumping from a tree at the old swimming hole,
dangling my feet from a dock.
Hat over my eyes, fishing pole by my side
got no fish on the line, got no bait on the hook.

It’s good to lay back on a day like that
when it’s plain for all to see
that everything is all right with the world
and that it’s alright with me.

Wind from the north
blowing back and forth
rain splattering on the pane
while I’m hunkering down in my big easy chair
to watch an old movie again.
Or lying in the shade in my hammock cocoon
between two perfect trees.
Swapping lies with a few of the guys
over beers ’round a fire doing just what we please.

It’s good to lay back on a day like that
when it’s plain for all to see
that everything is all right with the world
and that it’s alright with me.

I stayed in the race
trying to keep pace
chasing the golden dream.
But it’s true what they say
that everything has its price
and it ain’t all that it seems.
But sitting here while the world glows with your smile
at the grandchild on your knee,
it’s a moment in time when I know what is mine
and I understand I’ve got all that I need.
